Sneaker Lingo You Need to Know

A comprehensive list of common sneaker terms

1.Sneakerhead- A term to describe someone interested in wearing and collecting sneakers.
2. Hypebeast- A person who follows street fashion trends and typically buys the newest sneakers or clothes for the purpose of showing off. Typically hypebeast dress like edgy teenagers and the combinations of outfits don't look good.

3. Beaters- Sneakers that have been worn past their prime. They have been used and abused.

4. Quickstirke (QS)- A limited sneaker release in-store or online during a short time frame that could be a few hours or days.
5. Collab- Is when two street wear designers work together to create a product. You can tell it's a collab because of a little x between the brands Ex: Adidas x Prada

6. Vintage- A classic shoe that is made with better materials than the original but it's made to look old.

7. Retro- Same as vintage
8. A pair of shoes that is made for infants, kids, and adults.

9. Colorway- The colors of a sneaker.
10. Deadstock (DS)- A sneaker that has never been worn.
11. Rotation- A person who owns multiple pairs of sneakers that he or she wears often.
12. Reseller- A person that buys any quantity of sneakers and resells them at a price that is higher than its suggested retail. Some resellers even have their own stores and the shoes are often vacuum sealed so the materials don't degrade.
13. Reselling- A business that is associated with sneaker resellers. It can be a large enterprise run by a small group or a small side hustle for quick cash.
14. Customs- Ordinary sneakers that have been redesigned by professional sneaker
customizers.
15. Kicks- Another word for sneakers.
16. Upper- The material that makes up everything that isn't the shoes sole. Ex leather upper
17. Cop- A word to describe being able to buy a sneaker. Ex- I copped a pair of Yeezys!
18. High Top- A sneaker with a collar that extends above the ankle.

19. Low Top- A sneaker with a collar that rest below the ankle.

20. Mid Top- A sneaker with a collar that is the roughly the height of the ankle.

21. On Ice- Buy two pairs of the same sneaker and storing the extra for future use or just to have in a personal viewing collection.
22. Friends & Family- Limited sneakers for celebrities and their close circle of family and friends.
23. Restock- When a sneaker that was previously sold out is now in-stock.
24. Limited- A sneaker that was made in a small quantity and it is usually highly sought after.
25. Collection- A person with multiple sneakers and they usually store them in elaborate shelves or displays.
